A movie I should NOT have watched

I am always a big scary movie lover and so when I found out about the movie 30 Days of Night and it suppose to be in Alaska I had to watch it. Lets just say the movie totally freaked me out. The movie was suppose to be set in Barrow,AK and yes there is a town that is very remote named Barrow. I don't know if they have periods of darkness like they showed on that movie. But lets just say the sheer fact that they were so remote and all the snow just really played on me tonight.

You seriously need to do a LOT more research on living in Alaska. The town you're moving to is somewhat remote and you can bet there will be periods of darkness.

You should really prepare yourselves for this move - it is NOT one you should do without educating yourself thoroughly.

Actually I have done more research on this move in the last few months than people do planning their retirement. You have no idea how much I have done or what I already know or not. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick with telling people what they should do. Especially since you don't live there or even know us.

Hi - I just read your answer to my comment and then reread my comment. I guess it sounded like I was scolding you and I certainly didn't mean it that way.

When you said you didn't know if Barrow had periods of darkness like in that movie, I became a little alarmed that maybe you really hadn't done much research. Barrow is VERY remote and it is in complete darkness from mid-November to late January.

You're right, I don't know you. I have the info on your blog and that's it. From there it doesn't sound like you have much of a clue what you're getting into.

I don't live there, but I've been there a number of times, in winter as well as summer and it is not for the unprepared. My brother DOES live there and I sent him to your blog, thinking he'd be a good person for you to be in contact with since he doesn't live far from where you're moving to and he knows just about everything there is to know about Alaska.

It's such an exciting time for you and your family - I was only concerned that since you question the move a lot, you may not have all the info you'll need to get along. It's not like moving to Nevada or something. It's beautiful, and it's dangerous.

I'm sure you'll get along fine. Sorry if I offended you, and maybe I was a little too abrasive, but maybe you're a little sensitive.

Good luck.
